He was seised of the following in demesne as of fee. Kenardington, 2/3 manor, and the advowson of the parish church. In the 2/3 there is a hall with 2 chambers annexed, a chapel and a chamber built above it, a kitchen, and a small stable, all worth nothing yearly because ruinous and without roofs; 30 a. arable, each acre truly worth 4d. yearly; 110 a. pasture, each acre truly worth 3d. yearly; 2 a. meadow, each acre truly worth 6d. yearly; 4 a. underwood, each acre truly worth 3d. yearly; £4 assize rent, payable at Michaelmas, Christmas, Easter, and Midsummer; rent of 22 cocks, 54 hens, 400 eggs, 4 geese, and rent of Ҁ of ½lb. pepper and 4lb. wax, from various tenants, payable on the feast of St Thomas apostle; and a court baron, held every 3 weeks, worth nothing yearly beyond the fee and expenses of the steward. The manor is held of the king in chief as 1 knight’s fee. The third part of the manor is held by Agnes, who was the wife of Thomas Basynges , in dower. The reversion pertained to the above John, the brother and heir of Thomas, at his death.

By charter dated at Empingham, 25 May 1439, shown to the jurors, he granted, among other lands and tenements, all his lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, services, courts with their suits, and other liberties, commodities, and easements in Egmanton, to William la Zouche, knight, lord of Totnes and Harringworth , Henry Plesyngton, knight , John Browe, esquire , John Oudeby, esquire , John atte Vikers, clerk , John Peyntour, clerk , John Kirkeby , and William Baker , and their heirs and assigns. They were seised in demesne as of fee. The grant was to the intent that they would carry out the will of John Basynges concerning the premises. Afterwards at Empingham John declared his will, namely that the feoffees should feoff John Basynges , his son, and the heirs of his body. The feoffees, by charter, shown to the jurors, dated at Empingham, 20 October 1439, granted the above to John Basynges, esquire , bastard son of John Basynges, knight , and the heirs of his body, so that he was seised as of fee tail. The grant was to the same intent as in 427. Afterwards John declared his will, namely that the feoffees should feoff John Basynges , his bastard son, and the heirs of his body. The feoffees, by charter, shown to the jurors, dated 20 October 1439, granted the above to John Basynges the son, and the heirs of his body, so that he was seised in demesne as of fee tail. He was seised of the following, which by charter, shown to the jurors, dated at Empingham, 25 May 1439, he granted to William la Zouche , the others named in 427, and their heirs and assigns, described as the manors of Empingham and Normanton, with appurtenant lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, woods, underwoods, vivaries, stanks, fisheries, mills, neifs and their issue, views of frankpledge, courts and their suits, homages, reliefs, escheats, and other liberties, customs, commodities, easements, and with the advowson of the church of Normanton; and all lands, tenements, meadows, pastures, rents, reversions, and services in the vills and fields of Horn and Hardwick. William and the others were seised in demesne as of fee. The grant was to the same intent as in 427. Afterwards at Empingham John declared his will, as follows. The feoffees would feoff John, his son, of the manor of Empingham for the term of his life, without impeachment of waste. They would feoff Agnes Brounfeld, servant of John the father, for the term of her life, of the manor and advowson of Normanton and of pieces of meadow in Normanton called ‘Liteldale’ and ‘the Ladybedde’, and of a croft called ‘Bricecrofte’ in Empingham; and the feoffees would grant the reversion of the manor, meadow, and croft to John Basynges the son, for the term of his life, without impeachment of waste. Afterwards the feoffees, by charter shown to the jurors, dated at Empingham, 20 October 1439, granted the specified premises to Agnes for the term of her life, so that she was seised in demesne as of free tenement. Henry Plesyngton , John Browe , John Peyntour , John Kirkeby , and William Baker , by charter shown to the jurors, dated at Empingham, 30 September 1445, granted to John Basynges , the son, for the term of his life, without impeachment of waste, the manor of Empingham, and the reversion of the premises which Agnes holds for the term of her life. He was seised of the manor of Empingham as of free tenement. Agnes attorned herself to him by virtue of the grant of the reversion. Empingham, the manor, true annual value £20, held of the duke of Norfolk as 1 knight’s fee. Normanton, the manor, which the above Agnes holds for the term of her life, true annual value 40s. and no more, because a great part of it lies fallow (in friscis) and uncultivated, held of Richard, duke of York , of the manor of Hambleton, service unknown; and the advowson of the church of Normanton, annual value 40s. Horn, a toft and 2 virgates of land, true annual value 3s. 4d. and no more because the whole vill is completely wasted (devastat’) and uninhabited (inhabitabilis), held of the earl of Westmorland , service unknown. By another charter dated at Empingham, 25 May 1439, he granted the following, described as all his lands, tenements, meadows, and pastures in the vills and fields of North Luffenham, South Luffenham, Tixover, and Norburgh , to William la Zouche , and the others named in 427, and their heirs and assigns. They were seised in demesne as of fee. The grant was to the same intent as in 427. Afterwards at Empingham John declared his will, as follows. The feoffees should feoff Alice, his bastard daughter, of the lands, tenements, meadows, and pastures in North Luffenham, South Luffenham, and Tixover, for the term of her life. They should feoff Robert Couper , his servant, of the lands, tenements, meadows, and pastures in Norburgh , for the term of his life. They should grant the reversion of all the above to John Basynges the son, and the heirs of his body. Afterwards the feoffees, by charter shown to the jurors, dated at Empingham, 20 October 1439, granted the specified premises to Alice, for the term of her life, and to Robert, for the term of his life. They were seised in demesne as of free tenement. Henry Plesyngton , John Browe , John Peyntour , John Kirkeby , and William Baker , by charter shown to the jurors, dated 30 September 1445, granted to John Basynges , the son, and the heirs of his body, the reversion of all the above. Alice and Robert severally attorned themselves to him. North Luffenham, a croft and 20 a. land, which the above Alice holds for the term of her life, true annual value 4s., held of the duke of Warwick , service unknown. South Luffenham, a toft and 12 a. land, true annual value 3s., held of the duke of Warwick , service unknown.
