John Cokayn , Robert Walsham , Richard Odyham , and William Chichele were once seised of the following in demesne as of fee. By charter, shown to the jurors, and having obtained royal licence [CPR 1396–99, p. 8], they granted the manor and advowson to John Haddele of London for the term of his life, and to his executors for a year after his death; with remainder to William – the son of William Wyngfeld, knight – and Katherine his wife, named in the writ, and the heirs of their bodies; with successive remainder to the right heirs of John Haddele . John was seised by virtue of the grant and died seised of such estate. After his death, William and Katherine were seised of the manor and advowson in demesne as of fee tail by virtue of the remainder. William died without heir between him and Katherine. Katherine survived him and died seised of such estate without heir by William. Hintlesham, the manor, and the advowson of the church. A moiety of the manor, and the advowson, are held of the king in chief by service of a fish-hawk or 2s. yearly. The other moiety is held of the king in chief as 1 knight’s fee. She was seised of the following in demesne as of fee. Hintlesham and Raydon, a tenement called ‘Makels’, 140 a. land, 50 a. pasture, 10 a. wood, and 10s. rent, annual value 60s., held of William Morton , service unknown. Hadleigh, a messuage, 68 a. land, 9 a. pasture, 1 a. meadow, and 10s. rent, annual value 53s. 4d., held of the prior Of Christ Church, Canterbury, of the manor of Hadleigh, by service of 30s. yearly.
Date of death as 419. As to the moiety of the manor of Hintlesham and the moiety of the advowson [sic], William Pecche is the kin and next heir of John Haddele , as the son of John Pecche, knight , the son of Joan, one of the daughters and heirs of John.
