Joan Swynerton , sister and heir of Thomas Newenton , was seised of the following in demesne as of fee. By charter dated at Havering-atte-Bower, 14 December 1422, she granted the manor to Henry Somer , Lewis John , William Babthorp , John Assh , Robert Caundissh , and Henry Chadirton , named in the writ, and their heirs and assigns, so that they were seised in demesne as of fee. Lewis, William, and Robert died, and Henry Chadirton afterwards died feoffed jointly with Henry Somer and John Assh , who survive, and are now seised in fee by right of survivorship. Havering-atte-Bower, the manor of [Redden Court]. There is there a messuage, with other houses annexed, worth nothing yearly; and 100 a. land, worth 16s. 8d. yearly, each acre worth 2d. yearly, once William Flemyng’s, held of the king , by the service of finding him litter at each of his arrivals in the chamber of Havering-atte- Bower; and 66 a. land [value not specified], held of the king by rent of ?13s. 8d., payable at the Exchequer at Michaelmas and Easter. ?He held 20 a. land in Havering-atte-Bower called ‘Wattes’, annual value 6s. 8d., each acre worth 4d. yearly, held of Joan Chadirton , of her manor of..., by fealty and rent of 6d. payable at Michaelmas and Easter. William Gobyon of Essex, esquire , William Hanwell, citizen and grocer of London, and John Turvey of... Bedfordshire were seised of the following in demesne as of fee; which, by charter dated at Kelvedon Hatch, 20 February 1444, they granted to Henry Chadirton and Roger Paslew , and their heirs and assigns, so that they were seised in demesne as of fee. Henry died, and Roger is seised of such estate by right of survivorship. Germains, the manor so-called, held of Richard Hawes by rent of 6d; and certain lands and tenements in Kelvedon Hatch and Navestock. There is there a messuage, worth nothing yearly; 100 a. land, worth 16s. 8d. yearly, each acre worth 2d.; 20 a. pasture, worth 5s. yearly, each acre worth 3d.; 6 a. meadow, worth 12s. yearly, each acre worth 2s.; and 10 a. wood, worth nothing yearly beyond the cost of enclosure.
He died on 14 July 1444. The said [sic] Henry Chadirton is his son and next heir, aged 20¾ and more. [Head:] Delivered to Chancery at Westminster on 15 November 1444.
