She held no lands or tenements of the king or of others in demesne of fee. But a fine [CP 25/1/293/70/263] was raised in the king’s court at Westminster on the morrow of St John the Baptist, 1442, between John Markham and Thomas Stokedale, querents , and Walter and Isabel, deforciants , concerning among other things the following. Walter, Isabel and the heirs of Isabel quitclaimed the tenement, moiety, and advowson to John, Thomas, and the heirs of Thomas, with warranty; for which John and Thomas granted the same to Walter and Isabel for the term of their lives, with remainder to Richard Strikland , son of Walter and Isabel, and the heirs of his body. Walter and Isabel were seised in demesne as of free tenement, and Isabel died seised of such estate jointly with Walter, who survives. Barford St Martin, a carucate of land, 4 a. meadow, and the advowson of the church, annual value 40s., held of John, duke of Exeter , by service of 20s. Compton Chamberlayne, ½ manor, called ‘lady Clynton maner’, annual value £8, held of Maurice Berkeley, chevalier , of his manor of West Grimstead, by service of 15s.
She died on 29 April last. Richard Strikland is her son and next heir, and was aged 14 and more on 29 June last.
