He held no lands or tenements but was formerly seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Brabourne, advowson of two parts of the church of Hinxhill, and 20 a. land in Brabourne. Thus seised, he granted them by charter dated on 7 May 1425, shown to the jurors, to George Stedolf and William Brewer, clerk , and their heirs and assigns. George and William were thus seised in demesne as of fee. Afterwards, William, by charter dated on 3 September 1425, shown to the jurors, quitclaimed for him and his heirs all right and claim that he had in the manor, advowson, and land – described as the manor of Brabourne, advowsons of churches and priories, knights’ fees, liberties, franchises, markets, wood, meadows, pastures, waters, warrens, parks, commons, paths, ways, rents, and services whatsoever belonging to the manor, and all the other lands and tenements in Brabourne – to George, then jointly seised with William, and his heirs and assigns. Afterwards, George, by charter dated on 2 October 1425, shown to the jurors, granted the manor, advowson, and land, to Henry, cardinal of St Eusebius , bishop of Winchester , described as Henry, bishop of Winchester , Thomas, duke of Oxford [recte Exeter] , now deceased, John, bishop of Bath and Wells , chancellor of England , described as John Stafford, clerk, treasurer of England, Hugh Halsham and Parnel his wife, now deceased, John, Lord Fanhope , described as John Cornewayll, knight , Hugh Loterell , now deceased, Thomas Faukes, clerk , Robert Fitz Robard , now deceased, and William Brewer, clerk , and their heirs. The cardinal etc. [as above] were thus seised in demesne as of fee. Royal licence was not obtained, and the king, by letters patent dated on 10 November 1425 [CPR 1422–29, p. 316], shown to the jurors, pardoned the transgression and further granted that they should hold the manor to them and their heirs of the king and his heirs. Thus seised, by charter, sealed with his arms and dated on 22 October 1434, shown to the jurors, he granted the manors and advowsons to John Haket and John Broun, parson of Postwick , and their heirs and assigns. Thus seised, by charter dated on 23 October 1434, shown to the jurors, they granted the manors and acre of land, to Hugh Halsham and Parnel his wife, now deceased, Thomas, present bishop of Norwich , described as master Thomas Brounse, clerk , Robert Ponynges, knight , Robert Roos, knight, master John Lynfeld , clerk, now deceased, Thomas Faukes, clerk , William Seyntjohn, esquire , now deceased, Richard Middelton, esquire , John Fisshelake, clerk , John Wattys , Richard Clothehale , John Lematon , Edmund Mille , Richard Okenden , George Stedolf , esquires, Thomas Grene , John Egremond , John Elvy , and William Brent , and their heirs and assigns. Hugh, Parnel, the bishop etc. [as above] were thus seised in demesne as of fee. Hugh, Parnel, John Lynfeld, and William Seyntjohn died jointly seised of their estate with the bishop, Robert Ponynges, Robert Roos, Thomas Faukes, Richard Middelton, John Fisshelake, John Wattys, Richard Clothehale, John Lematon, Edmund, Richard Okenden, George, Thomas Grene, John Egremond, John Elvy, and William Brent; and the bishop, Robert etc. [as above] are still seised of their estate. The king, by letters patent dated on 27 March 1442, shown to the jurors, pardoned their transgression and granted that they should hold the manors and acre of land to them and their heirs and assigns of the king and his heirs, as manifest in the letters [CPR 1441–46, p. 65]. West Lexham, the manor, true annual value 10 marks. Stiffkey, the manor and advowson of the church, true annual value 10 marks. Filby, the manor, true annual value £10.
