He held no lands or tenements of the king in chief as of his crown, but he held the following, in right of Eleanor his wife, still living, the other daughter and heir of William Norwode. Harrietsham, 1/2 manor and 1/2 advowson of the church. In the whole manor, there is a certain curtilage, worth nothing yearly; 60 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 6 a. ox-pasture, each acre worth 7d. yearly; 6 a. meadow, each acre worth 10d. yearly; 80 a. sheep-pasture, each acre worth 2d. yearly; a watermill, worth 26s. 8d. yearly; 66s. 5d. assize rent from free tenants, payable at Michaelmas, Christmas, and Midsummer, equally; 52 hens from various tenants at Christmas, price of each 3d.; and perquisites of court, worth 13s. 4d. yearly above the steward’s fee. The manor is wholly held of the king as of the honour of Peverel as 1/3 knight’s fee. Furthermore, William Sneyth and William Bertyn were seised of the following messuage and land in demesne as of fee. Thus seised, and long before John Adam ’s death, they granted them to John and Eleanor his wife, and the heirs of John. John and Eleanor were thus seised: John in demesne as of fee, and Eleanor in demesne as of free tenement. John died seised of this estate and no other, and Eleanor is still living. St Mary in the Marsh, a messuage, worth nothing yearly, and 120 a. land, each acre worth 8d. yearly, called ‘Geffreyston’, held of the archbishop of Canterbury in gavelkind, service unknown.
He died on Saturday before St Laurence last. Thomas Adam is his son and next heir regarding the lands held by knight service, and the same Thomas, and William Adam are his sons and next heirs regarding the lands held in gavelkind. On the day of the inquisition, Thomas and William were respectively aged 18 and more, and 9 and more. [Head:] Delivered to court on 11 July.

It is not clear from the dorse of the writ whether one or two inquisitions were returned. It is unclear which feast of St Laurence is indicated. The feast of St Laurence the Martyr fell on 10 August, and that of St Laurence the Archbishop fell on 3 February.
