The lands and tenements are variously in the custody of the king and in the custody of William Waldeff and Thomas Wilcok by royal grant [CFR 1430–37, p. 227]. They were diligently examined separately regarding the age of William Horton , and swear that he was born at Catton on 1 May 5 ‪ Henry IV [1404] and baptised in the church there. He was 21 years of age and more on 1 May 4 ‪ Henry VI [1426] and the jurors well recollect this for the following reasons. John Hugge , 60 and more, bought a virgate of land in Catton for him and his heirs from John Rawlyn on the day that William was born and baptised. John Whytyng , 58 and more, knows because Robert his son was born on the same day and baptised in the same church as William. William Irpe , 59 and more, was made parish clerk of Catton on that day. Henry Ampe , 61 and more, was espoused to Joan his wife in Measham church on that day. John Bayly , 63 and more, had a house burn in Catton on that day. William Smyth , 67 and more, knows because John Smyth his father died on that day (viam universe carnis fuit ingressus). Henry Hukyn , 68 and more, carried the chrism to the font in Catton church when William was baptised. William Maylour , 62 and more, says that Henry his father was godfather to William Horton , and William Maylour was with him in Catton church at his father’s command at the time of the baptism. William Jeynkynsone , 59 and more, was badly beaten and wounded by John Batte at Catton on that day. Richard Taylour , 65 and more, says that Alice his daughter married John Boldyng in Catton church on that day. John Pryst , 64 and more, carried a torch in front of William Horton when he was borne to Catton church for the baptism. John Lesson , 66 and more, fell from his horse at Catton and broke his shin on that day.
