Jurors: William Marom and Thomas Smyth of Horncastle; William Cadeby of North or South Reston (Reston); William Byllok of Belchford; John Webster of Horncastle; Robert Bust of Bucknall; Thomas Coteler , William Wale , and John Taillour of Horncastle; and Robert Kynzerdby , John Plowme , and John Taillour of North or South Reston (Reston).

He held no lands or tenements of the king, or any other, in demesne as of fee or in service. He was formerly seised of the manor of North Reston in demesne as of fee and, long before his death, he granted it by charter, dated on 14 January 1427 and shown to the jurors, to John Beumount, Lord Beaumont , William Aldewyncle , William Tresham , William Weldon , Richard Wodevill , the lord Robert, parson of the church of Little Carlton, and Walter Drwry , all still living, and to the lord Thomas Beumount and John Grene , now deceased, and to their heirs and assigns. They were thus seised in demesne as of fee. The manor was described in the charter as the manor of North Reston with all its members in the vills of South Reston, Gayton le Marsh, and Winthorpe, with all lands, woods, mills, meadows, pastures, rents and services, wards, marriages, reliefs, and escheats. North Reston, the manor, annual value £10, held of John Chamberleyn of Wickenby , service unknown.

He died on 12 March 1439. Richard Chamberleyn , his son and next heir, is aged 24 years and more. [Head:] Delivered to court on 14 May.

His date of death is recorded in ms as ‘Friday the feast of St Gregory the Pope 17 Henry VI’. The feast of St Gregory falls on 12 March which, in 1439, was a Thursday.

He held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee simple of the king in chief, or any other. He held the manor of Petsoe to him and the heirs of his body by enfeoffment of Richard Chamberleyn, knight , to Richard his son and Margaret wife of Richard, and to the heirs of their bodies. They were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail, and had issue: Richard, named in the writ. Richard and Margaret died, and the manor descended to Richard their son who died seised of the manor. Petsoe, the manor, extending to the vills of Petsoe and Emberton. There is the manorial site, worth nothing yearly; 5 virgates of land, each worth 5s. yearly; 6s. free rent from certain lands and tenements of free tenants in Petsoe and Emberton, payable at Easter and Michaelmas equally; 2 woods called ‘Thorney Wode’ and ‘Shortwode’, worth 20s. yearly when cut, but worth nothing this year and for the next 6 years as they were cut in 14 ‪ Henry VI [1 Sept. 1435 to 31 Aug. 1436]; view of frankpledge in Petsoe, worth 12d. yearly; 8 capons rent, each worth 3d., payable at Christmas; labour services from 6 men for a day at harvest to reap the lord’s grain, each service from each man worth 2d.; and labour services from 6 ploughmen for a day to plough the lord’s land at the time of sowing wheat, each work worth 6d. the day. The manor is not held of the king , but of whom is unknown.

He died on 14 March last. Richard, his son and next heir, is aged 26 years and more.

He held no lands or tenements in demesne as of fee of the king in chief, or any other; but Richard Chamberleyn, knight , was formerly seised in demesne as of fee of the manor of Stanbridge which he granted by charter, dated at Stanbridge on 1 November 1379 and shown to the jurors, to Richard Chamberleyn , his son, and Margaret his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies. They were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail, and had issue: Richard, named in the writ. Richard and Margaret his wife died. The manor descended to Richard as their son and heir and he died seised of this estate. Stanbridge, the manor, held of the king in chief as 1/100 knight’s fee. There is a messuage with garden, pond, and dovecot, worth 6s. 8d. yearly; 4 virgates of land, each worth 6s. 8d. yearly; 8 a. meadow that can be mown, price of each acre 8d.; a pasture, lying in minute parcels, worth 5s. yearly; rent from free tenants, 25s. 8d. payable at Michaelmas and 24s. payable at Easter; the site of a windmill, worth 2d. yearly; and pleas and perquisites of court, worth 12d. yearly.

He held no lands or tenements of the king in chief, or any other, in demesne as of fee, in service, or in any other way because, by charter dated at Mill Cotes on 27 February 1428 and shown to the jurors, he granted his manors of Mill Cotes, Ringstead, and Denford, and each and every of the lands, tenements, rents, and services, to John Grene , Richard Colfox , John Chamberleyn , John Gryffon , John Assheton , William Sewell , William Aldewyncle , Edward Sucwusser , John Grymbold , John Salman , John Aylesmere , William Serjaunt , and Thomas Turnour, chaplain , and their heirs and assigns. Richard Chamberleyn was described in the charter as Richard Chamberleyn of Mill Cotes. They were thus seised in demesne as of fee. John Grene , Richard Colfox , John Chamberleyn , and John Salman afterwards died, and John Gryffon , John Assheton , William Sewell , William Aldewyncle , Edward Sucwusser , John Grymbold , John Aylesmere , William Serjaunt , and Thomas Turnour, chaplain , continued in their estate by right of survivorship. Thus seised, John Assheton , William Sewell , Edward Sucwusser , John Grymbold , John Aylesmere , William Serjaunt , and Thomas Turnour, chaplain , afterwards quitclaimed for them and their heirs by deed, dated on 31 December 1432 and shown to the jurors, all right and claim that they had or could have in the above manors, lands, tenements, and rents to John Gryffon and William Aldewyncle , and their heirs and assigns. By so doing they excluded themselves, their heirs, and anyone acting in their name from laying any legal claim in future to the manors, lands, tenements, rents, and services. The manors etc. were described as the manors of Mill Cotes, Ringstead, and Denford, and each and every of the lands, tenements, rents, and services that John, William, Edward, John, John, William, and Thomas had lately held jointly with John Gryffon and William Aldewyncle by enfeoffment of Richard Chamberleyn . John Gryffon and William Aldewyncle were thus seised in demesne as of fee and continued in their estate for all the life of Richard, and yet so continue. Mill Cotes, the manor, annual value 60s., held of the heirs of the earl of Kent as of the fee of Bourne, service unknown. Ringstead, the manor, annual value 100s. It is not held of the king in chief, but of whom it is held and by what service is unknown. Denford, the manor, annual value 100s., held of the earl of Stafford , service unknown. Neither the manors, lands, and tenements, nor any parcel of the same, is held of the king in chief.
