Kentsford, the
manor in the parish of St Decuman’s, held of

Luttrell, esquire
, a minor in the
wardship of the king, as of his castle of Dunster, as 1/4 knight’s fee. There is a
capital messuage, worth nothing yearly; a dovecot, worth 3s. 4d. yearly; 40 a. arable,
each acre worth 4d. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 20 a. pasture,
worth nothing yearly; and 40s. assize rent from various free tenants.
Watchet, a
messuage and 1 1/2 a. arable, worth 12d. yearly, held of others than the king, but of
whom and by what service, unknown.
Treborough, 4 messuages, worth nothing yearly, and 400 a.
arable, each acre worth 2d. yearly, held of others than the king, but of
whom and by what service, unknown.
He granted the manor, messuages, land, and tenements, by charter shown to
the jurors, to

, and their heirs. Laurence, John, and Robert were thus seised in
demesne as of fee, and granted the manor, messuages etc., by charter shown to the jurors, to

and Joan his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right
heirs of John. John and Joan were thus seised in demesne as of fee tail. They afterwards had
issue: Gilbert, named in the writ, and died. Gilbert entered the manor, messuages etc., and
was seised in demesne as of fee tail.
He granted them, by charter shown to the jurors, to
Richard
Orchard
and his heirs and assigns. Richard was thus seised in demesne as of fee and,
by charter shown to the jurors, he granted the manor, messuages etc. to Gilbert and Sibyl
his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies. Gilbert and Sibyl were thus seised in demesne as
of fee tail, and had issue: Simon.
Gilbert afterwards demised a croft of land at ‘Horypath’,
parcel of the above manor, to
John
Fayrehere
, Agnes his wife, and John their son, for their
lives, to hold by rendering a red rose at Midsummer to Gilbert and his heirs for all
services. John,
Agnes, and John were thus seised in demesne as of free tenement. The grant was made by
indenture, shown to the jurors.
He demised, by another indenture, an acre of arable at
‘Horypath’, parcel of the above manor, to

Elys
of Watchet for life, to hold by
rendering a grain of pepper at Christmas to Gilbert and his heirs for all services.
He
granted, by another deed shown to the jurors, 5 roods of arable called ‘Foulebrygge’, parcel
of the above manor, to
Thomas
Flemyng
, Lucy his wife, and Thomas their son, for their lives,
to hold by rendering a red rose at Midsummer to Gilbert and his heirs for all services.
Thomas, Lucy, and Thomas were thus seised in demesne as of free tenement.
He granted, by
another deed shown to the jurors, an acre of meadow called ‘le Hampmede’, parcel of the
above manor, to
Thomas
Gylberd
, Katherine his wife, and John their son, for their lives, to
hold by rendering a red rose at Midsummer to Gilbert and his heirs for all services. Thomas,
Katherine, and John were thus seised in demesne as of free tenement.
With the exception of
the croft, acre of land, 5 roods of arable, and acre of meadow, parcel of the above manor,
Gilbert thus died seised in demesne as of fee tail of the manor, messuages, land, and
tenements, and also of the rents and reversions relating to the croft etc. After his death,
Sibyl entered the manor etc., exceptions excepted, and was seised in demesne as of fee tail
by right of survivorship.
He died on 10 September 1436. Simon, his son and next
heir, is aged 5 years and more.
