of Richard. The grant was made by charter dated at Bentley on 27 April 1430,
shown to the jurors, in which and manor and bailiwick were described as the manor of Bentley
with the bailiwick of keeping the ‘hay’ of Bentley, with all reversions in Bentley and all
easements and appurtenances in Staffordshire.

in chief as 1/10 knight’s fee and by service of
keeping the king’s ‘hay’ of Bentley. In the manor, there is a messuage and a watermill,
worth nothing yearly; 240 a. land, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 20 a. meadow, each acre worth
6d. yearly; 22 a. wood, worth nothing yearly; 6 a. moor, each acre worth 1d. yearly; and 7s.
rent, payable at Easter and Michaelmas equally.
