Roger Herford was lately seised of the following in demesne as of fee, which he granted to Robert Herford his son and the heirs of his body. By virtue of this Robert was seised in demesne as of fee tail. He had issue, John, who, after Robert’s death, was seised in the same way. John had issue, Eleanor, who, after John’s death, was likewise seised. She had issue, Oliver and Katherine, the latter named in the writ. Oliver had issue, Christopher, and then died, as afterwards did Eleanor. Christopher was then seised, but died without an heir of his body, after which Katherine was seised as his kin and heir, viz., sister of Oliver, his father. All this happened in accordance with the form of the grant. Little Paxton, two-thirds of 1/2 manor called ‘Moynesmanere’, annual value 5 marks, payable at Christmas, Easter, Midsummer and Michaelmas equally, held of the king as of his honour of Huntingdon as 1/40 knight’s fee. She held the following in demesne as of fee. Puttocks Hardwick, the manor, held of the king as of his honour of Huntingdon in socage by rent of 4d., payable at Easter and Michaelmas equally. There are 100 a. land, each acre worth 2d. yearly; and 36s. rent from tenants-at-will, payable at the above four times of the year equally. Keyston, 10s. annual rent from lands and tenements formerly of Robert Basyngham , payable at Michaelmas and Easter equally.

She did not hold any lands or tenements of the king or of any other in demesne or in service. She was lately seised of the following manor and land in demesne as of fee which, by the name Katherine Asplion , in pure widow-right, by an indented charter of hers with her seal attached, shown to the jurors, dated at Wrestlingworth on 15 February 1418, she granted to Thomas Manyngham for life. The charter described it as her manor of Wrestlingworth and all other lands, tenements, rents and services, of tenants free and neif, belonging to it in Wrestlingworth, reserving to her a chamber and a stable sufficient for her estate. It granted him the manor, etc., exceptions excepted, to him and his assigns for life, without impeachment for waste, ruin or destruction of men or things, to hold of the chief lords of the fee by due service, rendering to Katherine 10 marks sterling yearly, payable at Michaelmas and Easter equally, and six dozen squabs yearly after Easter, while they are in season. Should the rent fall into arrears, in part or in whole, for half a year then she and her assigns or attorney can re-enter the manor, etc., in her original estate, the charter notwithstanding, providing always that if she dies before Thomas the annual rent of 10 marks and six dozen squabs shall cease from that time forth. By virtue of this charter, Thomas was seised as of free tenement. Afterwards, by a deed of hers with a seal, shown to the jurors, dated on 4 November 1418, by the name Katherine Asplion , in pure widow-right, she remised to Thomas Manyngham and his heirs and assigns all her present and future right and claim to the manor, etc., by the name of all her lands, tenements, rents and services in Bedfordshire, Huntingdonshire and Cumberland. Thomas paid the rent up until the date of the release, and she had nothing in the manor, etc., after this date. Wrestlingworth, the manor called ‘Herfordes Manere’, held of the king in socage as of his manor of Sutton as of his duchy of Lancaster, by service of 8s. yearly, payable at Martinmas, and 140 a. land, held of William Myllereth and Beatrice his wife as of their manor of Cockayne Hatley, by service of a needle and thread payable yearly at Michaelmas.
