He held no lands or tenements in demesne or service of the king or another in the city or its suburbs. John Saperton , brother of Roger and of whom Roger was heir, was lately seised in his demesne as of fee of a messuage and a garden within the king’s close (clausum) of the Fleet within the suburbs, the office of keeping of all prisoners committed to the king’s prison, and £6 14s. 5d. annual rent from lands and tenements within the city and suburbs. The messuage, garden, office and rent are held of the king by grand serjeanty, namely the service of keeping the prison and its prisoners, taking from the king 6d. daily by the hands of the sheriff for the keeping and 2s. 4d. from each man committed to the prison and in his keeping, in the name of his fee. By his charter dated on 4 March 1414, with royal licence [CPR 1413–16, p. 254], he granted these to John Wakeryng, clerk , Henry Kays, clerk , Robert Thresk, clerk , John Slory and William Wakefeld , now deceased, and to John Makeworth, clerk , William Cheyne, knight , described as William Cheyne , William Babyngton, knight , described as William Babyngton , Peter de la Pole and William Fyndern , who survive, and their heirs and assigns, as is clear fully in the charter and letters patent of licence, shown to the jurors. They were seised in their demesne as of fee and the survivors remain seised by right of joint tenancy in survivorship.
He died on 7 June last. Elizabeth, wife of William Venour , is his daughter and next heir, aged 13 years and more.

John Sapurton , his brother, of whom he was heir, was seised in his demesne as of fee of a messuage within the close of the king’s palace of Westminster and the office of keeping the palace, with the fees and profits belonging to the office. The messuage and office are worth £10 yearly, held of the king in chief, by service of keeping the palace, taking from the king 6d. daily by the hands of the sheriff of London for the keeping; having bread, wine, ale and dishes of cooked food and allowance of candles each day when the king is at Westminster within the palace close, as a servant of the king has; having fuel in the cook-house, beds in the chambers and hay in the stable during each recess of the king from the palace, whosoever remains; having all the old timber, coverings of new timber, the old shingles for the purpose of collecting dung, when the king makes repairs to the buildings in the close; and taking from each merchant holding or occupying a market stall (stallum vel scabellum), wherever sited within the palace, 12d. each quarter and 1 1/2d. each week when the Curia Regis sits, and 4d. each quarter from each merchant not having or occupying a market stall but carrying merchandise there. He granted these as in 169 and the same survivors are still seised.
