Ralph Pirot was seised of the manor of Maudeleyns in demesne as of fee. By a fine levied at York on the quindene of Martinmas 1302 [CP 25/1/87/48 no. 365], he gave it to Laurence de Broke and Ellen his wife, and to Laurence’s heirs by Ellen, with remainder to the right heirs of Laurence in perpetuity. The fine was exemplified under the great seal of ‪ Henry VI and shown to the jurors. Laurence and Ellen had issue: Robert and Ralph, and afterwards died. Robert was then seised of the manor, and died without heir of his body. Ralph then entered the manor as brother and heir of Robert. He had issue: Joan, Agnes, and Ellen, and afterwards died seised of the manor and other lands and tenements in Buckinghamshire in demesne as of fee tail. Joan, Agnes, and Ellen then entered the manor and other lands and tenements as the daughters and heirs of Ralph son of Laurence, and were seised. The manor and the other lands and tenements were partitioned between them, and the manor was allotted to Agnes in her purparty. Agnes had issue: Joan, and afterwards died. Joan then entered the manor and was seised in demesne as of fee tail. She married Peter Scudamour, knight , and they had issue: Katherine, who had issue: Thomas Reynes , Ralph, and Cecily. Peter afterwards died, and Joan married Robert Corbet, chevalier . Joan and Robert then granted the manor to John Ebryngton and Thomas Playsted , and to the heirs of John in perpetuity. John and Thomas Playsted were thus seised of the manor, and afterwards granted it to Robert [Corbet] and William Rokewode , and to their heirs in perpetuity. Robert and William were thus seised, and they gave the manor to John Reynes , John Barton , John Olney of Weston , Richard Reynes, esquire , and Thomas Reynes , and to their heirs in perpetuity. John Reynes, John Barton, John Olney, Thomas Reynes, and Richard were seised in demesne as of fee. Katherine mother of Thomas Reynes afterwards died, and Joan daughter of Agnes also died. The manor then descended from Joan to Thomas Reynes , kin and heir of Joan, by virtue of the fine, as the son of Katherine daughter of Joan. Thomas expelled John Reynes, John Barton, John Olney, Thomas Reynes, and Richard from the manor and was solely seised of it for the rest of his life. Thomas had issue: John, and afterwards died on 5 July 1417. The manor then descended to John as son and heir of Thomas, and John was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail. John died on 20 October 1421. He was 4 years of age and a minor without heir of his body. Ralph son of Katherine, kin and heir of John son of Thomas as the brother of Thomas father of John, entered the manor and was seised of it in demesne as of fee tail. He died without heir of his body. After his death, Cecily had issue: William Strete and Henry. The manor descended from Ralph son of Katherine to William Strete , kin and heir as the son of Cecily sister of Ralph son of Katherine. William was thus seised in demesne as of fee tail, and died so seised without heir of his body. After his death, the manor descended by virtue of the fine to Henry Strete brother and heir of William. Maudeleyns, the manor, extending to Northchurch, Rickmansworth, and Standon, held of the king in chief as 1/20 knight’s fee. There is the site and various buildings in Northchurch, worth nothing yearly but greatly in need of repair; 80 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; various fields of arable: 2 fields of arable called ‘Dene Feldis’, worth 13s. 4d. yearly, a field of arable called ‘Hilfeld’, worth 13s. 4d. yearly, a field of arable called ‘Madamfeld’, worth 13s. 4d. yearly, a field of arable called ‘Milfeld’, worth 13s. 4d. yearly, a field of arable called ‘Oldfeld’, worth 6s. 8d. yearly, and a field of arable called ‘Prestcroft’, worth 3s. 4d. yearly; a croft called ‘Merlyng’, worth 6s. 8d. yearly; a pasture called ‘Kyngyshyll’, worth 26s. 8d. yearly; 2 meadows called ‘Chapelcroftes’, worth 6s. 8d. yearly; 3 a. meadow at ‘Lollesley’, worth 3s. 4d. yearly; 4 a. meadow in Rickmansworth, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 30 a. wood and underwood, worth 3s. 8d. yearly; 6 ?ponds (vevar) pertaining to the same manor, worth nothing yearly; 4s. rent from various tenements in Standon; and 9s. 2d. rent from various tenants, free and at will, namely: Thomas Cheyne , William Flete , keeper of the hospital of St John the Evangelist [Berkhamsted], William Lynne , John Catermayn , Roger Bygge , the heir of Thomas Puffe , John Lyncoln , Richard Perschore , Richard Ryche , Thomas Whelpeley , John Capps , Nicholas Couper , the heir of Isabel Harpeley , John Wheteley , John Cok, senior , John Chalshunt , William Edmund , Laurence Pygote , Richard Belche , Thomas Reeld , Richard Hende , Katherine Lyton, John Whetherherd , John Hyll , John Merston , William Stevenes , and John Cok, junior .
William died on 20 December last. Henry Strete , his brother and next heir, is aged 22 and more.
John Hertwell and John Pygmyll have taken the issues since William’s death, and still take them and occupy the manor.
