597 Writ de etate probanda . ‡ 26 May 1430. [ Frank ].G Regarding her inheritance as daughter of George Sallowe of Stanton by Dale who held of ‪ Henry V in chief. The lands and tenements of the inheritance are in the custody of master John Makworth, clerk, by commission of Henry V [CPR 1416–1422, p. 128]. Inform John of the forthcoming proof of age. [Dorse:] Master John Makworth was informed by John Ireton and Thomas Defe . He attended but knew nothing to prevent the lands and tenements being delivered to Henry and Agnes. Date and place of proof given.
DERBYSHIRE. Proof of age [indented]. Stanton by Dale 27 July 1430. [ Neville ]. Agnes was born at Stanton by Dale and baptised in the church there.
John Burbach , 60, swears that Agnes was aged 16 on 3 May last. In the week that she was born, William his own son was born who is now 16 years of age and more. William Sallowe , 44, says that on the Pentecost following the birth of Agnes, he was retained by the abbot of Dale to serve him for one year in the office of donzel. John Wright of Stanton by Dale , 66, says that, on the day of the birth, he built a new house, called ‘Yatthouse’, in the manor of George father of Agnes at Stanton by Dale . Nicholas Botell , 43, says that, on 12 March before the birth of Agnes, Maud his own daughter was born who is now 16 years of age and more. Richard Chaneney , 50, was servant to John Brynnesley, clerk , godfather of Agnes, and came to the baptism with him. William Williamson , 49, says that on the day that Agnes was baptised in Stanton by Dale church, Margaret his wife was churched following the birth of a son called George who is now 16 years of age and more. Thomas Roggerson , 60, broke his left shin at Stanton by Dale on the day that Agnes was born. John Wilcokson , 48, carried a basin and ewer to the church on the day of the baptism so that the godfather and godmothers could wash their hands. Hugh Roggerson , 49, says that Roger Huson his father fell from a beam in his grange at Stanton by Dale and broke his right shin in the week that Agnes was born. William Webster , 60, married Maud daughter of John Scarle on 6 May following the birth of Agnes. Robert Shepherd of Ilkeston, [no age], guided Margery Trowell , godmother of Agnes, from Ilkeston to Stanton by Dale to the baptism of Agnes. He was there when she was baptised. Thomas Clerk , 50, says that a chamber of Thomas at Stanton by Dale caught fire in the week that Agnes was born.
