Assigned for 1/3 castle of Dunster: 2 gates at the castle’s entrance, with all buildings above them and an old, adjoining cook-house; a tower to the west of the gates; a garden between this tower and another tower called ‘hayneystoure’, with free entrance and exit as required to the remaining 2 parts of the castle; and 3 a. pasture and 1 a. wood around ‘le Castell Torre’, with free entrance and exit as required on ‘le casteltorre’ to the wood. The pasture lies next to the western side of the entrance of the castle, and the wood lies on the eastern side of the castle, at the northern end of a wood there. The following knights’ fees were assigned, with rents and services of the tenants. Thurloxton, 1 knight’s fee that Thomas, prior of Taunton , holds. Rents and services were assigned from the following for lands and tenements etc. in Carhampton: John Dodyngton and his heirs for lands and tenements called ‘le Bromehey’; Hugh Bort , John Duke , Henry Pyppyngg , John Luty and Ciota Abell, William Everard , Ralph Eyre , John Bryttecote , and their heirs for lands and tenements that they hold severally; Richard Churchehey and his heirs for a close beside ‘Shyresplotte’; Richard Pykenot and his heirs for an acre of land, formerly of John Baylly of Dunster; Robert Ryvers for an acre of land, formerly of Robert Northam ; a third of three parts of 1lb pepper, delivered by the prior of Dunster and his successors for lands and tenements; a third of ¼lb pepper, delivered by John Dodyngton and his heirs for lands and tenements in a place called ‘Algore’; 3 hens and 3 pullets, delivered by William Dodysham and his heirs for a close and dovecot; and 1/3 boon-work that the above prior performs for the lords of Dunster, taking hay or grain to the lord’s grange at harvest with a wagon and eight oxen for a whole day with the lord’s food, worth 12d. Assigned: 1/3 profits of 3 mills in Dunster, commonly called ‘Overmylle’, ‘Nethermylle’, and ‘Newmylle’; and 1/3 profits of the hundred of Carhampton with the court of the same, and of the court of the manor of Carhampton called ‘Berton Court’. Margaret accepted the above in dower and the escheator delivered seisin. In witness, the escheator placed his seal on one part of the indenture for Margaret, and Margaret placed her seal on the other part for the escheator.
