Henry V granted the following, among other things, to John Wodehous, esquire , and to his heirs and assigns in perpetuity, to hold by rendering one rose yearly at Midsummer to the king and his heirs. The grant was made by letters patent dated Westminster 25 June 1415 and shown to the jurors [CPR 1413–1416, p. 340]. Well Hall, the manor called the alien priory or house of Well Hall. There is the site with a dovecot, worth 6s. 8d. yearly; 200 a. arable within ‘le Estgate’, each acre worth 6d. yearly: sum 100s.; 160 a. arable outside ‘le Estgate’, with liberty of three folds in Gayton, Well Hall, and Holt, each acre worth 4d. yearly: sum 53s. 4d.; 30 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly: sum 30s.; 80 a. pasture, each acre worth 2d. yearly: sum 13s. 4d.; a pasture called Wellefen’ containing 50 a., worth 10s. yearly; 30 a. underwood, each acre worth 2d. yearly: sum 5s.; 100s. assize rent, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts and taken from the manor’s free tenants in Well Hall, Holt, Gayton, Leziate, West Acre, Gayton Thorpe, and Ashwicken; a court held every three weeks, worth 6s. 8d. yearly above the fee of the seneschal and clerk of the court; view of frankpledge held once yearly, worth 2s. yearly; a warren, worth 5s. yearly; a water-mill, worth 3s. 4d. yearly; and a stank, worth 8d. yearly. The grant of the manor included all lands, tenements, rents, services, knights’ fees, advowsons of churches and other ecclesiastical benefices, and all other possessions whatsoever belonging to the manor within the kingdom of England. Gayton, the rectory and parish church, appropriate to the priory from antiquity. The grant included all tithes, oblations, obventions, benefits, and all other profits whatsoever, and their future issues, except those reserved to ‪Henry V and his heirs.
He died on 27 January last. Henry, his son and next heir, is aged 24 and more.
