Pennardd, the commote. There is one capital messuage, worth nothing yearly because ruinous; and a court, worth 40s. yearly. There is the vill of Caron, where there are 10 a. arable, each acre worth 12d. yearly; a water-mill, worth 26s. 8d. yearly; 8 a. meadow, each acre worth 5d. yearly; 2 fairs held yearly, each worth 5s. yearly in toll and other profits; and 73s. 4d. assize rent taken from lands and tenements of free tenants, payable as above.
Within the commote of Pennardd, but outside the vill, there is a water-mill, worth 20s. yearly; 100 a. wood, worth nothing yearly above supporting the beasts and maintaining the wood; and 20 marks 3s. assize rent taken from lands and tenements of free tenants within the commote, payable as above.
Genau’r-glyn in the adjacent March of Wales, ½ commote. There is a water-mill, worth 26s. 8d. yearly; 200 a. wood, worth nothing yearly above keeping the same; £10 10s. assize rent from lands and tenements of free tenants, payable as above; and a court, worth 20s. yearly.
The commote of Pennardd and moiety of Genau’r-glyn are held of the king
in chief as of the crown by knight service.
He died on 18 January last, and Philip, his son and next heir, is aged 12 and more.
