He held the following by curtesy in the March of Wales. Magor, lands and tenements, true annual value 46s. 8d., held of ‪ Henry V in chief by knight service. Penhow, the manor, annual value 5 marks; and Portskewett, the manor, within the lordship of Strigoil, annual value 5 marks, held of John, earl marshal of England , by knight service. Whitson, the manor; and Peterstone Wentlooge ( Preston ), Rogerstone (Trageston), and Redcastle, lands and tenements in the vills, within the lordship of Caerleon, annual value 10 marks, held of Edmund, late earl of March , service unknown.
He died on 12 August 1420. Ralph Bowliers is son of Joan and John, and Joan’s next heir. He is aged 21 and more and in the king’s wardship.
John’s death and Ralph’s minority meant that the following people took the following issues. ‪ Henry V took the issues of the lands and tenements in Magor through his escheators, and ‪ Henry VI takes them for the same reason. The earl marshal takes the issues of the manors of Penhow and Portskewett by reason of John’s death, Ralph’s minority, and the statute regarding royal prerogative in Wales; and, for these reasons also, Edmund, late earl of March , and Anne his wife, still living, took the issues of the manor of Whitson and the lands and tenements in the vills of Peterstone Wentlooge ( Preston ), Rogerstone (Trageston), and Redcastle.
