He was seised of the following in demesne as of fee, held of the king
in chief by knight service. Newcastle Emlyn, a ruinous castle, worth nothing yearly; and
Emlyn Uwch Cuch, the commote in Carmarthenshire in South Wales. In the commote, there is a forest, its agistment worth 6s. 8d. yearly; a ruinous mill, worth 10s. yearly; 10 marks rent called ‘Westwa’, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts; a several fishery, worth 4s. yearly; and pleas and perquisites of the court held there every three weeks, worth 100s. yearly above the seneschal’s costs. There is a borough, lately laid waste by the Welsh rebellion and almost destroyed, where there are two fairs held yearly and a court held every three weeks, worth 20s. yearly; and 30s. rent from various burgages, payable at Martinmas and Pentecost by equal parts.
By a deed shown to the jurors where he is described as

in Wales, he granted a pension of 40s. silver to
Edmund
Morys
for Edmund’s life, for his past and future counsel to the same John, payable at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts, and 6 fresh, seasonal salmon yearly, caught in the fishery there. By the same deed, Edmund was granted the seneschalcy of the castle and commote for life, described as the lordship of Newcastle Emlyn, with power of distraint in the castle and commote if any part of the pension falls into arrears at any time. By a deed, he also granted a pension of 40s. for life to
Richard
Golde
, his servant, taken at Easter and Michaelmas by equal parts from the issues of the castle and commote.
He died on 9 October last. William is his son and next heir, and aged 5 and more.
