Chilham, the manor of East Stour, annual value 100s., held of John, Lord Ros , who was then a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the castle of Chilham as ½ knight’s fee. Waltham, 60 a. land, annual value 3s. 4d., held of the prior of St John of Jerusalem in England in gavelkind, service unknown. Godmersham, 16 a. land, annual value 3s., held of the prior of Christchurch, Canterbury , in gavelkind, service unknown. Chilham and Molash, 44 a. land, annual value 6s. 8d., held severally of Lord Ros and John Darell, esquire , in gavelkind, but the quantity held of each and service to each is unknown. Stourmouth, the manor, annual value 10 marks, held of the archbishop of Canterbury as ¼ knight’s fee. Westbere and Chislet, a moiety of 60 a. land, meadow, and pasture, annual value 13s., held of the abbot of St Augustine’s, Canterbury , by knight service, quantity unknown. Oterpley, the manor with appurtenances in Challock, Boughton Aluph, Eastwell, Westwell, Great Chart, and Hothfield, annual value 10 marks. The site of the manor and 80 a. land in Challock are held of Lord Say by knight service, quantity unknown. The rest of the manor is held in gavelkind of various lords and by various services, but of whom and by what service is unknown.
He died on 4 July 1417. William Jele and John Jele are his kin and heirs as the sons of John son of Isabel sister of Henry father of William. William Jele is his next heir regarding the manors and tenements held by knight service, and William Jele and John Jele are his special heirs regarding the tenements held in gavelkind. William is aged 34 and more, and John is aged 22 and more.
Katherine his widow took the issues after his death and, since her marriage to John de Preston , both have taken the issues, title unknown.
