John Maunse lately inhabited this messuage. He was seised of the following in demesne as of fee. Drewsteignton, the manor with advowson of the church, annual value 10 marks, held of the earl of Devon as of the honour of his castle of Okehampton by knight service. East Stonehouse, 50 messuages, a dovecot, a carucate of land, 4 a. meadow, and 100 a. pasture, annual value 12 marks, held of the earl of Devon as of the honour of his castle of Plympton by knight service. Merton, 15s. ½d. rent, held of the earl of Devon , service unknown. Mutley, one ferling of land, annual value 10s., held of Walter Pollerd in free socage. [1]+Thus seised and by indenture dated East Stonehouse 15 February 1420, he granted the above to Henry Foleford and Robert Hukelyng of Exeter, both now deceased, and to John Jaybyen , Robert Lywer, parson of Drewsteignton , and Robert Heye , all still living, and to their assigns for the life of Stephen and Radegund his wife, still living, to be held of Stephen and his heirs for 1d. rent payable at Easter, with remainder after the deaths of Stephen and Radegund, to James son of Stephen, still living, and to the heirs of his body, to be held of the heirs of Stephen. The surviving feoffees are still seised of this estate. Stephen died seised in demesne and by right of 1d. rent and the reversion.+[1] The above was described in the grant as his manors of East Stonehouse and Drewsteignton, and all his lands in Mutley, with rents and services of his tenants in Merton in the parish of Drewsteignton. He held the following in demesne as of fee. Sutton Vautort, 6 messuages, a water-mill, 66 a. land, and 36s. rent, annual value 10 marks, held of John Vautort in free socage. Sutton Prior, 2 messuages, annual value 8s., held of the prior of Plympton in free socage. Richard Hankeford , Henry Foleford , John Houstecote , and Nicholas Twychyngton were lately seised of the following in demesne as of fee. Ashwater, 5 messuages, 2 cottages, 7 ferlings of land, 14 a. wood, and 74s. 9d. rent, annual value 60s., held of John, earl of Huntingdon , as of the honour of his castle of Barnstaple by knight service. Thus seised and by deed dated Ashwater 3 April 1403, shown to the jurors, they granted the above, described as all their lands, tenements, rents, reversions, and services in Ashwater, held by enfeoffment of Martin de Ferers and Richard Wolf , to Stephen, described as Stephen Derneford, junior , and Radegund his wife, and to the heirs of their bodies, to hold of the chief lords of the fee by due service. Failing such issue, the lands and tenements should remain to the right heirs of Stephen in perpetuity. Stephen and Radegund, still living, had issue: James, still living.

He died on 15 October last. James, their son and Stephen’s next heir, is aged 14 and more. James married Joan, still living, daughter of John Cole, esquire , while Stephen was alive.

She holds the manor of Antony in dower from the inheritance of Thomas, earl of Devon , a minor in the wardship of the king. Rosecraddock, the manor, annual value £10 12s. 1½d., held of the heir of Thomas Marney, knight , as of his manor of Colquite, service unknown.
