824 Writ de etate probanda. ‡ 1 July 1427. [Wymbyssh] John the son died a minor in ‪Henry V‬’s custody. Elizabeth’s majority claimed by Alexander Heghmore , her husband. Richard Skelton , son of John Skelton, knight , to whom ‪Henry V‬ committed custody until the majority of John the son, to be informed [CPR 1413–16, p.399]. [Dorse:] Richard Skelton informed.

The jurors say that Elizabeth was born in the city of Carlisle and baptised in the church of St Cuthbert there, and was aged 16 years and more on 12 July 1426. They know because of the following recollections. William Denton , aged 60 years and more, was mayor of Carlisle at the time of Elizabeth’s birth, and saw Elizabeth carried to church for baptism. John Thirnby , 50 years and more, says that Margaret his daughter was asked at the time of Elizabeth’s birth to be her wet-nurse. John Atkynson , 50 years and more, says that William Atkynson his brother was diligently asked by him at the time of Elizabeth’s birth to name Elizabeth at the font. Robert Barbour , 63 years and more, saw Joan Jhonson [sic] carry Elizabeth to church for baptism. William More , 46 and more, carried a basin and ewer to church for the godfather and godmothers to wash their hands after the baptism. Thomas Frankes , 52 years and more, says there was heavy rain the day she was born. Richard Bordell , 43 years and more, says that there was a great battle between the Scots and the English the day that Elizabeth was born, in which his brother was killed. Robert Tyntour , 50 years and more, went to Penrith to get John Knollowe , Elizabeth’s godfather. Thomas Belt, 48 years and more, buried Isabel his wife the day that Elizabeth was born. Edmund Taillour , 42 years, fished in the River Eden and caught 40 salmon, of which he gave 4 to Elizabeth’s mother. William Sadiller , 60 years and more, married his wife, who survives, in the church during Elizabeth’s baptism. Thomas Donne , 64 years and more, at the time of Elizabeth’s birth had a messuage burn in Carlisle, and while he and his neighbours were working to extinguish the fire he saw Elizabeth carried to church for baptism.
