The jurors say that Thomas was born at Shelley and baptised in the church there and was aged 22 years on 2 February last. They know because of the following recollections. John Lamberd , aged 60 years and more, took the manor of Shelley at farm of Thomas de Legh , grandfather of Thomas, from 2 February for 7 years. Denis Hauke , 61 years and more, says that William his son died the day that Thomas was born, after a long illness. John Smyth , 52 years and more, married Margaret, who survives, the day that Thomas was born. John Michell , 58 years and more, gave water to Thomas’s godfathers and godmother to wash their hands immediately after Thomas was baptised. John Sayler , 44 years and more, says that the day that Thomas was baptised his horse violently threw him to the ground and three ribs on his left side were broken. John Haldon , 40 years and more, was the parish clerk of the church and held the Bible before the priest when Thomas was baptised. William Algarr , 49 years and more, says that Thomasine his wife gave birth to a son named Robert, the day that Thomas was baptised. John Whytebred , 57 years and more, carried a basin and ewer before Thomas when he was carried to church for baptism. William Roger , 53 years and more, carried two silver pots full of red wine to church for Thomas’s godfathers and godmother and bystanders to drink when Thomas was baptised. Thomas Chamburlayn , 60 years and more, saw John Penyfader , Thomas’s godfather, give Thomas 20s. immediately after he was baptised. John Spencer , 46 years and more, says that John de Legh , father of Thomas, sent for Joan wife of John Spencer to be Thomas’s wet-nurse, the day that Thomas was baptised. William Brught , 66 years and more, says that there was such a strong wind the day that Thomas was born, that many houses in the vill collapsed. The jurors say that Robert Wrytell did not come according to the summons made to him as in the writ, to show why the king should not hand over and deliver to Thomas, being of full age, the lands and tenements of his inheritance in Robert’s custody by letters patent of ‪Henry V‬ until the heir’s majority.
