                           </name>, by his letters patent of <date type="grant" when="1413-02-21">21 February 1413</date> [<hi rend="italic"><hi rend="italic">CPR 1408–13</hi></hi>, p.467], released all right which he then had in <grantItem>the excepted manor</grantItem> etc. to <name type="person" role="grantee" key="2506358">Ralph</name> and his <estate type="fs">heirs and assigns</estate>, as is contained more fully in these letters patent, and the reversion of all other lands, tenements, rents, services, liberties and possession which any other person then held for life, for term of years, in fee tail or any other manner, belonging to the castle, earldom, honour and lordship and which should descend, remain or revert or in any other manner belong to ‪<name type="person" role="king" key="2447657"><name type="forename">Henry</name> IV</name> or his heirs, together with all other lands, tenements, rents, services, rights and possessions belonging to the castle, earldom, honour and lordship or other parcel of the same in the hands of ‪<name type="person" role="king" key="2447657"><name type="forename">Henry</name> IV</name>, himself or his heirs in reversion, demesne or any other manner, and any right, title, claim or interest which could increase to ‪<name type="person" role="king" key="2447657"><name type="forename">Henry</name> IV</name>, himself and his heirs, to have and hold, except the exception, to <rs type="person">the duke</rs> and his male heirs of his body to the value of £2000 yearly. Should the castle, earldom, honour, lordship, etc. not amount to £2000, then <rs type="person">the duke</rs> and his heirs could take compensation from the lordships, lands, tenements, rents and possessions, as is clear more fully in the letters patent made to <rs type="person">the duke</rs>.</grant> <grant><name type="person" role="grantor" key="2450193">

afterwards confirmed these letters patent to <name type="person" role="grantee" key="2263679">the duke</name>, in his parliament at <name type="place" key="2776027">Westminster</name> with the assent of the lords spiritual and temporal and at the request of the Commons, for himself and his heirs to <rs type="person">the duke</rs> and <estate type="tm">his male heirs</estate>.</grant>
           <estateGroup type="life">By virtue of these letters patent, <rs type="person">Ralph</rs> held for life <holding>4 knights’ fees, namely in the vills of <name type="vill" key="627163">Rolleston</name>, <name type="vill" key="190316">Coddington</name>, <name type="vill" key="63676">Barnby in the Willows</name>, <tei:name key="http://ipm.ddh.kcl.ac.uk/django/eats/entity/553907/" type="parish">North</tei:name> <hi rend="italic">or</hi> <name type="place" key="675001">South Collingham</name>, <name type="place" key="422159">Kneeton</name>, <name type="place" key="726091">Syerston</name>, <name type="place" key="663101">Sibthorpe</name>, <name type="place" key="758453">Treswell</name>, <name type="place" key="409617">Kettlethorpe</name>, <name type="place" key="655103">Shelton</name>, <name type="unidentifiedPlace" key="2863682"><hi rend="italic">Wyluelyngham</hi></name>, <name type="unidentifiedPlace" key="2960830"><hi rend="italic">Sutton</hi></name> and <name type="place" key="507251">Meering</name> and 30s. annual rent as fixed rent of service called ‘<foreign rend="roman" xml:lang="enm">Castelward</foreign>’ from certain lands and tenements which their tenants held severally of the late earl at his death in these vills by <rs type="serviceTenure" subtype="kni">knight service</rs>, namely by service of these 4 knights’ fees and this 30s. rent called ‘<foreign rend="roman" xml:lang="enm">Castelward</foreign>’. He held similarly return of writs and other orders of <name type="person" role="king" key="2718905">the king</name> concerning these knights’ fees and rent. The knights’ fees, rent and return of writs etc. with all the above-mentioned are still part and member of the castle, earldom, honour and lordship, and of all the above-mentioned contained and not excepted in the letters patent to <rs type="person">the duke</rs>, and were so at the time of <rs type="person">Ralph</rs>’s death, at the time of ‪<name type="person" role="king" key="2447657"><name type="forename">Henry</name> IV</name>’s letters patent and long before, at the time of ‪<name type="person" role="king" key="2450193"><name type="forename">Henry</name> V</name>‬  ’s letters patent, and hereafter, the reversion of the knights’ fees, rent and return of writs etc. and all the above-mentioned belonging after the late earl’s death to <rs type="person">the duke</rs> and his same heirs by reason of the grant to him by letters patent in the form above. The return of writs etc. with all the above-mentioned as part of the castle, earldom, honour and lordship are <rs type="heldOf">held of <name type="person" role="king" key="2718905">the king</name>
