Owing to the death of John Urban and the minority of John his son and heir, the following came into the hands of ‪Henry V‬ and are still in those of ‪Henry VI. Hartley, the manor, held of the king in chief by knight service. In the manor there are the site, worth nothing yearly; assize rents of 66s. 8d. at the four usual annual terms; perquisites of the court, worth nothing after the steward’s costs and payment; 100 a. arable, each acre worth 4d. yearly; 80 a. pasture, worth 16s. 8d. yearly; 5 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; 10 a. seasonable wood, of which 1 a. can be felled yearly and then worth 5s.; and heath and woodland, worth nothing except for the enclosure of the manor. Stone, 2 a. wood called ‘Benegroue’, held of the bishop of Rochester in gavelkind, services unknown, worth nothing yearly after the lord’s services. Swanscombe, 32 a. arable, worth 7s. 4d. yearly, held of the earl of March in gavelkind, services unknown. Fawkham, 4 a. wood called ‘Shrofeld’, worth nothing yearly after the lord’s services, held of Robert Lovell, esquire , in gavelkind, services unknown. Kingsdown, 85 a. land, worth 5s. yearly, held of the earl of March in gavelkind, services unknown; and 14 a. land, worth 2s. 4d. yearly, held of William Burton, lord of Hever , in gavelkind, services unknown. Chevening, 30 a. land, worth 20s. yearly, held of the archbishop of Canterbury in gavelkind, services unknown. Southfleet, 13 a. land, worth ?9s. 1d. yearly, held of John Snape, priest of Fawkham chantry , in gavelkind, services unknown.
He died on 24 October 1424. Andrew his brother was his next heir, then aged 15 years and more; the latter, a minor in the king’s wardship, is dead.
