The jurors say that Thomas was born at Yate and baptised in the church there, and was aged 21 years on 24 February last. They know well for the following reasons. Simon Cotysbroke , aged 50 years and more, carried a basin with a silver ewer from Yate manor to the church to provide water for the godfathers and godmother to wash their hands after Thomas was raised from the font. Richard Juell , 49 years and more, carried a torch from the manor to the church before Thomas and held it while Thomas was baptised. John Doughton , 60 years and more, carried two silver pots with clary and malmsey and four silver goblets from the manor to the church for the godfathers and godmother and other bystanders to drink the day that Thomas was baptised. Robert Goterygge , 50 years and more, says that Edmund his father was buried in the chapel of St Mary in the south of Yate church, the same day that Thomas was born. William Lyc... [ms galled], 47 years and more, saw many men coming from the church after Thomas was baptised and they related to him that Thomas was baptised, to his great joy. Thomas Wyrlok , 60 years and more, says that Katharine his daughter was espoused to Robert Middenhale and he was at the espousals at Yate the same day that Thomas was baptised. John Nywman , 48 years and more, the same day was taken ill and was laid up for a year. Very many of his neighbours related to him that Thomas was born at Yate and baptised in the church there. John Overbury , 49 years and more, was sent that day immediately after Thomas’s birth for Isabel Stans[?ch]... to act as godparent and name him. Thomas Fresnan , 50 years and more, says that William his son was born at Yate the same day that Thomas was born. Andrew Batyn , 47 years and more, saw Thomas, parson of Yate church and Thomas’s godfather, give Thomas there soon after he was baptised a silver goblet with a lid and his nurse 6s. 8d. William Andrewe , 45 years and more, says that Margaret his wife was asked at the time of Thomas’s birth to help Thomas’s mother. Walter Bar[?w]er , 60 years and more, saw Thomas parson of Yate church , Thomas’s godfather, give Thomas there soon after he was raised from the font a little silver bell and his nurse 6s. 8d.
