He held no lands or tenements of ‪the king or another. Long before his death he was seised in his demesne as of fee of the following, with which he enfeoffed the same feoffees as in 122 on condition that they perform his will that they should enfeoff William his first-born son and the heirs of his body, with the manor of Catton and the lands and tenements in Walton, successive remainders to William’s brother John and the heirs of his body, to John’s brother Thomas and the heirs of his body, and if Thomas died without such heirs then the feoffees or their heirs should sell the manor and lands for the best possible price and distribute the proceeds in divine service and alms for the souls of Roger, his family and all the deceased faithful. Also that the feoffees should enfeoff Thomas, Roger’s younger son, and the heirs of his body, with the manor of Brizlincote, successive remainders to William his first-born son and the heirs of his body and to William’s brother John and the heirs of his body, with the sale of the manor as above. This is clear more fully in the indenture of his will sealed with his seal and shown to the jurors. The feoffees are still seised. Catton, the manor, held of ‪the king in chief of his duchy of Lancaster of his honour of Tutbury by service of 1/2 knight’s fee. The manor is charged with an annual payment from its perquisites of £10 at Lady Day and Michaelmas in equal portions to Eleanor who was the wife of Lord Amaury de Sancto Amando, for life, as is clear in the indenture about the manor’s perquisites, shown to the jurors. In the manor there are the site, worth nothing yearly; a dovecot, worth 20d. yearly; £10 11s. 3 3/4d. assize rents; 40 a. land, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 80 a. land, each acre worth 2d. yearly; 31 a. land, each acre worth 1d. yearly; 40 a. land, each acre worth 1 1/2d. yearly; and a wood containing 50 a. land, worth nothing yearly. Annual value of the manor above the £10 reserved to Eleanor, 38s. 10 3/4d. Brizlincote, the manor, held of the lord of Repton by suit to his court of Repton at Easter and Michaelmas. The manor of Brizlincote is charged with annual payments of 10s. to the abbot of Burton upon Trent and 5s. to the monk of this abbey in the office called ‘pytaunser’, title and right unknown. In the manor there are a croft formerly the site, worth 6d. yearly; 40s. assize rents; 60 a. land, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 3 a. meadow, each acre worth 12d. yearly; and a virgate, containing 2 a. land, worth nothing yearly. Annual value of the manor 39s. 6d. Walton upon Trent, 4 messuages, a toft, 200 a. land and 1 a. meadow, held of Lord Ferrers of Groby by suit to his court of Walton at Michaelmas and Easter, except for a messuage and 20 a. land held of the same lord by 9s. rent at Michaelmas and Easter in equal portions, other services unknown, which Nicholas Durant holds. The above are worth 42s. 2d. yearly. There are 2 messuages, each worth 4s. yearly; 2 messuages, each worth 3s. 4d. yearly; a toft, worth 2s. yearly; 60 a. land, each acre worth 3d. yearly; 60 a. land, each acre worth 1d. yearly; 80 a. land, each acre worth 2d. yearly; and 1 a. meadow, worth 14d. yearly.
