She held in her demesne as of fee a wood called ‘Spayneswode’ containing 30 a. in the vill of Finchingfield, by knight service of Richard son and heir of Aubrey de Veer, late earl of Oxford , then a minor in the wardship of ‪ Henry IV . Each year 2 a. underwood can be cut, each acre then worth 6s. 8d. This is part of those lands and tenements mentioned in the inquisition held after Mary’s death before Thomas Aspall, former escheator , by virtue of a writ of mandamus directed by ‪Henry IV to him, returned to his Chancery, and specified in the writ [CIPM XIX, no. 673]. The wood is held by knight service of John son and heir of Richard son of Aubrey, a minor in the king’s wardship.
Joan daughter and heir of William son and heir of Mary is her kinswoman and next heir to the wood, and was aged 8 years on 11 June last.
