669 Writ for proof of age. ‡ 3 July 1420. [Wymbyssh]. Teste Humphrey, duke of Gloucester. He claims to have been born and baptized at Deene in Northamptonshire. By letters patent of Henry V [1 Dec. 1415; CPR 1413-16, p. 377], the lands and tenements of Richard Tyndale, who died a minor in the king's ward, were granted during his minority to Lewis Robessart, knight, who is to be informed. Endorsed: he was warned by John Balard and Robert Strete.

John Ryvell of Bulwick , John Turvey of Deene , William Fox of Rothwell , John Dawes of Rothwell , Hugh Catesby of Arthingworth , John Coste of Middleton , John Drayton of East Carlton , William Page of East Carlton , John Chybeden of Cottingham , William Wryght of Great Weldon , John Castelon of Rothwell , and Henry Byrd of Kettering , all 40 years and more, say that William Tyndale is the brother and heir of Richard Tyndale and was baptized in the church of St. Peter at Deene on 31 Dec. 1397 and is therefore aged 21 years and more. William ?Clop... and William Pyrly were his godfathers and Margery Skote was his godmother, and he was baptised by William Lenton, then parson of Deene. John Ryvell knows because he married Margery, late deceased, on the day of William's birth. John Turvey , William Fox , John Dawes and Hugh Catesby remember because on the day of William's birth their houses and buildings at Newton were burnt down. John Coste , John Drayton , William Page and John Chibeden know because on the day of William's birth they set out for the Roman curia. William Wryght , John Castelon and Henry Byrd know because on the day of William's birth they assessed a windmill at Weekley for taxation. [The right-hand side of the document is faded.]
