558 Writ for proof of age. 6 Nov. 1416. ‡ [Wymbyssh]. Teste Humphrey, duke of Gloucester. He claims to have been born and baptized at Kempston in Bedfordshire. Hugh Lutterell, knight, Thomas Darcy, Thomas Beaumont, William Daubeney, William Alisandre, Robert Veell, William Halle and John Saly, clerk, who were granted custody of the lands of Giles Daubeney, knight, who held from Henry IV, by Queen Joan, should be warned. Endorsed: they were warned to appear at Kempston on 17 Nov. 1416 [sic], by John Roo, John Dale, William Barre and Hugh Parker, the escheator's bailiffs. [Also:] Mark William warned.

John Sampson , 44 years and more, John Bergeveney , 48 years and more, John Hermer , 49 years and more, and John atte Okys , 50 years and more, all say that Giles the brother named in the writ is aged 21 years and more and was born at Kempston and baptized in the church of All Saints there on 20 Oct. 1393. They know because they were in the church and saw him baptized. Before his baptism they arbitrated in the church in a certain cause between the abbess of Elstow and the prior of Cauldwell concerning the tithes of a field called `le Ham' and saw an agreement made and recorded in a missal belonging to the church. Nicholas Carleton , 48 years and more, says the same and that he knows because he was present in the church and was expressly asked by Giles's godparents to record the day of Giles's birth in the same missal and received 12d. for doing so. John Arnold and John Horwod , both 47 years and more, say the same and that they know because John Burstall had a son called Robert who was baptized in the church on the same day. Richard Cobbe , Robert Okys and John Newell , all 49 years and more, say the same and that they know because they were present on that day in the church at the funeral, and attended the burial in the churchyard, of Margaret, wife of Richard, sister of Robert and niece of John. William Arrundell and William Swerigge , both aged 50 years and more, say the same and that they know because they were doing work on the church and Giles the father gave 100s. towards it.
