John Loudham, knight , once held in his demesne as of fee 30s. rent and a messuage in Carlton in Lindrick called `Whithall', and by his deed shown to the jurors and dated at Carlton on 19 Aug. 1316 gave them to Thomas Carleton of Carlton, clerk , as 30s. rent in Carlton in Lindrick from his free tenants with his lordship there comprising wardship, marriages, reliefs, escheats, suit of court every three weeks and all other services in water-mills, wastes, marshes etc. to hold to him and his heirs. He held in fee tail and they descended to Henry, son and heir of Thomas Carleton, clerk , and so to the Thomas Carleton, esquire , named in the writ, as heir of Henry son of Thomas in fee tail. They are held of the king by fealty and 6d. rent yearly at Michaelmas by the sheriff, for a pair of gilt spurs, annual value of the messuage 6s. 8d.
He died on 26 Sept. 1415. Walter Carleton is son and heir of Thomas, aged 23 years and more.
