Writ melius inquirendo. Addressed to the sheriff [sic] of Essex, referring to an inquisition taken before Reynold Malyns, late escheator in Essex, which found that she held the manor of 'Stanle alias Giffardes' in Great Sampford of Philippa, duchess of York, of her manor of Wimbish, by unknown service. Inquire as to the service. [The last line or two have been cut off and the date is unknown. Any inquisition that might have resulted is not extant.] The writ has no membrane number and was only placed in C 138/37/19 in 1912. In the print edition of CIPM XXI it is incorrectly associated with 190.

She held in her demesne as of fee: Radwinter, `Roos' manor, of the king of the earldom of Hereford by knight service, annual value 12 marks; Great Sampford, Gifford's manor, of Philippa, duchess of York, of her manor of Wimbish, service unknown, annual value 12 marks; Asheldham in Dengie hundred, New Hall manor, of the king in chief of the honor of Rayleigh by knight service, annual value 10 marks.
She died on 6 Aug. last. Her daughter Joan, widow of Thomas Aspall , and John son of John Sumpter and his wife Margery, the other daughter, are her heirs, aged 30 years and more and 12 years and more.
