John Mowbray, lord of the Isle of Axholme , formerly held in his demesne as of fee 1/3 manor of Wootton with view of frankpledge of the 1/3 and granted them to William de Brewosa for his life and afterwards by his charter, dated 9 Dec. 1319, granted the reversion of the 1/3 after the death of William with all liberties and profits to Roger de Middelton and his wife Sarah and the heirs of their bodies to hold by a rent of a rose at Midsummer, with reversion to John and his heirs. William attorned to them, and afterwards on 2 Jan. 1320 William granted all his holdings for life in Wootton to Roger and Sarah for the term of his own life. He died. Roger and Sarah held in their demesne in fee tail and had issue John and Alice and died. The 1/3 descended to John as their heir. He had issue Maud Dale , and it descended to her. She held it in fee tail when she died. The 1/3 of Wootton with the view of frankpledge are held of the Earl Marshal by rent of a rose. She also held 48 a. in Silsoe, of John Boteler , service unknown, annual value 10s.; a toft, 23 a. arable, 1 1/2 a. meadow, 12 a. 1 1/2 roods pasture in Wootton, held of the king as 1/50 knight's fee, annual value 100s.; and the advowson of the priory of Cauldwell.

William Bosun son of John, son of Alice, sister of John Middelton alias John Marchall , father of Maud, and son of Roger and Sarah, is her next heir and of full age, as she died without heirs of her body. [Cf. CFR 1413-22, p. 271.]
