Writ, melius inquirendo ‡ 10 July 1418. [Sturgeon]. Teste John, duke of Bedford. Recites findings of an inquisition before John Attebergh, late escheator in Wiltshire [not in CIPM XX], that he held a capital messuage called 'Lavyntonesplace' and another messuage and 2 carucates of land, 6 a. meadow and 100 a. pasture in West Lavington as of the king’s castle of Devizes. Inquire of whom held and by whose gift.

Jurors: John Coventre senior ; Robert Coufold ; John Coventre junior ; Walter Husyet ; John Groue ; John Husyet ; Henry Curteys ; John Drapere ; John Aueray ; Walter Fyde ; Peter Prentys ; and John Whyte .
He held in fee simple a capital messuage called `Lavyngtonesplace', 3 other messuages, 2 carucates, 6 a. meadow and 100 a. pasture in West Lavington [value, etc., not specified], and by the name of John Lavynton , son and heir of Ralph Clerk of West Lavington, granted them by his charter, shown to the jurors, with all his lands, rents, services and reversions in the hundred of Rowborough to William Flour of Worton and his heirs and assigns. He held in his demesne as of fee and afterwards by another charter John Lavynton quitclaimed them to William Flour, son and heir of Nicholas Flour of Worton. Later William Flour regranted them, described as all the lands, rents and services which he held in West Lavington and the hundred of Rowborough by the grant of John, to John Lavynton and his wife Isabel to hold for their lives with remainder to Thomas Edward son of Henry Edward of Patney and his wife Maud, daughter of William Flour , and the heirs of their bodies. John Lavynton and Isabel, Thomas Edward, and Maud, are all dead. John Edward son of Thomas and Maud is the heir of both. [No age given].
