Jurors: Henry Wolerby ; Thomas Brounknaue ; Ralph Gerveys ; William Hayne ; Thomas Colynson ; Robert Gerveys ; William atte Kyrke ; William Willymot ; John Kay ; William atte Persons ; John Aueray ; and William Bayly .

Jointly with Margaret his wife, who survives him, he held the manors of Norton, Foxton, Smeeton Westerby, Gumley and Church Langton, with the advowson of Langton at alternate vacancies, for the term of their lives by the grant of John Stotusbury and Thomas Wakeleyn , both now deceased, and Henry Slayer and William Leek . Norton is held of the earl of Warwick , service unknown, annual value 7s.; Foxton, Smeeton Westerby, Gumley and Church Langton, with the advowson of Langton of William de Asteley by knight service, annual value £9.

He died on 31 Jan. last . John Gryffyn is his kinsman and heir, being the son of Richard, son of Elizabeth his sister, and aged 30 years and more.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. Inquisition. Northampton. 21 March 1411. [Billyng].

Jointly with Margaret his wife he held the manor, hundred and advowson of Chipping Warden by the grant of John Stotusbury of Sulgrave, Thomas Wakelyn of Trafford, Henry Sclayer, parson of Chipping Warden , and William Leek by their charter dated 28 Jan. 1407 and shown to the jurors, to them and his heirs and assigns, by royal licence [CPR 1405–8 , p.165]. They held of the king in chief by knight service; annual value 100 marks. Also jointly with Margaret for the term of their lives he held the castle, manor and advowson of Braybrooke, annual value 40 marks, the manor of Rothwell called ‘Latymersfe’, annual value 10 marks, a rent of £4 from Watford payable by the prior of Daventry by equal parts at Easter and Michaelmas, half the manor of Little Bowden, annual value 20s., a rent of 20s. from John Dytton for his lands and tenements in Upton, a third part of the manors of Desborough and Rushton, annual value 13s.4d., a third part of the manor of Carlton, annual value 10s., a quarter of the manor of Great Weldon, annual value 10s., and 3 a. of fallow land in Dingley with a little wood called ‘Lowghlond’, annual value 2s.; all by the grant of the same John Stotusbury , Thomas, Henry and William, by another charter dated 8 June 1406 , shown to the jurors, describing the premises as all their castles, manors, advowsons, rents, services and reversions in the county except the manor of Chipping Warden and a third part of the manor of Desborough called Burdon’s Hall with the reversion of the other two parts. Braybrooke, Rothwell and the half, third parts and quarter of the above manors, and the lands, woods and rents are not held of the king but of whom is unknown.

Jurors: [ John Babyngton ]; John Ch[?okke] ; John Fl[emyng] ; ?William [?Poleyn] ; John [Herl...] ; [ John ?Bollok ]; [ Thomas Northlode ]; [ John B]eche ; Geoffrey Dany ; [and William ?Ormy ]. [The top left corner of the inquisition is missing and the remainder is in poor condition.]

He held a rent of 10 marks, paid at Midsummer, from the manor of West Chelwood, and the reversion of the manor, which Thomas Wyke his brother, whose heir he was, granted to Thomas Wyke of Stanton Wick , still living, Isabel his wife, now deceased, and Thomas their son, by licence of Richard II [CPR 1396–9 , p.166] and by an indenture, both shown to the jurors. The manor is held of the king by knight service, quantity unknown, annual value nil beyond the 10 marks.
