They have held the rent since then. Long after this <rs type="person">Ralph</rs> gave the manor, hundred and hamlets to <name type="person">

                        </name> for life, rendering £100 yearly at the 4 principal terms, with <name type="person" role="king">the king</name>’s licence [<hi rend="italic">inspeximus, CPR 1408–13</hi> , p.287]. So <rs type="person">Giles</rs> held the manor etc. except for the rent of £40.</ab>

                           <rs type="person">Ralph</rs> held no more when he died on <date type="death" when="1378-11-22">22 Nov. 1378</date> . <name type="person" role="heir">Giles</name>, under age in <name type="person" role="king">the king</name>’s ward, is next heir, being the brother of <name type="person">John</name>, son of <name type="person">Giles</name>, son of <name type="person">Giles</name>, son of <rs type="person">Ralph</rs>, and <measure type="age">aged 16 years</measure> and more.</ab>

                              <rs type="person">Giles</rs> son and heir of <rs type="person">Ralph</rs> held the manor of South Petherton etc. burdened with the £40 rent and took the profits and also held the rent of a rose from Kilmersdon from the death of his father until his own death on <date when="1386-06-24">24 June 1386</date> .</ab>
                           <ab>After his death the premises and rent of a rose were taken into the hands of <name type="person" role="king">

                              <rs type="person">Giles</rs> held in dower. How much she held and for how long is unknown.</ab>
                           <ab>When <rs type="person">Giles</rs> son of <rs type="person">Giles</rs> reached full age he had livery of all the premises apart from the dower of <rs type="person">Eleanor</rs>, and of the rent of a rose, and he took the profits except for the £40 and a rent of £10, which by royal licence [<hi rend="italic">CPR 1396–9</hi> , p.263] he granted to <name type="person">

                                 <name type="surname">Daubeney</name>
                              </name> for life on <date when="1397-11-20">20 Nov. 1397</date> , to be taken by equal parts at the four terms, with licence to distrain if in arrears. <rs type="person">Giles</rs> died on <date when="1403-08-22">22 Aug. 1403</date> , and the premises were again taken into <name type="person" role="king">the king</name>’s hands owing to the minority of <rs type="person">John</rs> his son. A third part was assigned to <name type="person" role="dowager">Margaret</name> widow of <rs type="person">Giles</rs> son of <rs type="person">Giles</rs> in dower.</ab>
                           <ab>
                              <rs type="person">John</rs> died on <date when="1409-09-24">24 Sept. 1409</date> , under age in <name type="person" role="king">the king</name>’s ward. A third part of 2 parts was assigned to <name type="person" role="dowager">Elizabeth</name> his widow in dower. The other 2 parts of the 2 parts were granted to <name type="person">
