1189 Writ. ‡ 18 Oct. 1404 Coventry [Gaunstede]. Addressed to John Hende, mayor and escheator of London. We understand that Peter Grubbe, citizen and fishmonger of London, and Juliana his wife, were seised to them and the heirs of Juliana of a messuage in the parish of All Hallows, Bread Street, by the grant of John Lynton, parson of St Vedast's, London, John Adam, and Thomas Polle, citizens and goldsmiths; that the messuage is held of us in free burgage; and that Juliana has died without heir and Peter has died, so that the messuage pertains to us as an escheat. Inquire accordingly.

Jurors: Thomas Halywell ; John Dutton ; Richard Julyan ; Edmund Hamelyn ; Stephen Marchaunt; John Gay ; Robert Mildenhale ; John Brocour ; John Fynch ; John Gore ; Thomas Child; and John Corner .
They held to themselves and the heirs of Juliana 1 messuage in the parish of All Hallows, Bread Street, by the gift of John Lynton, formerly parson of St. Vedast’s , and John Adam and Thomas Polle , citizens and goldsmiths of London, annual value 4 marks. Juliana died without heirs, and Peter died later.

Peter Grubbe , citizen and fishmonger, died on 14 Oct. 1400 holding 1 messuage in the parish of All Hallows, Bread Street, which escheated to the king as appears by the inquisition already returned.
William Grubbe , fishmonger, entered after his death and took the profits from 14 Oct. to 10 Dec. 1404 ; annual value 4 marks.
