Holdings
Long before his death he granted all his lands in the county to Richard Wryde, chaplain , Robert Monke , John Chalesworth , and John Rose , and their heirs and assigns. The charter, sealed with his armorial seal, was shown to the jurors. By virtue of the charter they were seised in demesne as of fee. Afterwards from that day until his death John occupied the lands by their will and sufferance and not in any other way. In the charter [recited in full], dated at Ardsley, 4 January 1415, he was described as John Boswell of Ardsley and the lands, granted with warranty, were described as his manors of Ardsley, Newhall, Cawthorne, ‘Canons’, ‘Daykyns’,n001 ‘Ferthyng’, Gunthwaite, West Bretton, Barugh, Woolley, Bullcliff, Barnsley, and Keresforth. The witnesses were Robert Godfray , William Whyte , and John Haldeworth , all of Ardsley, John Wodhall of Darfield, and Thomas Calthorn .He died on 17 August 1442. William Boswell is his son and next heir, aged 40 and more.
